Knowing When To Block
When you begin battle with a sand creature put up your guard by pressing the right trigger. When not fighting or being surrounded put your guard up so you will not get hit. This is a major clue when facing one of the larger enemies.

Fighting
This is a very effective strategy to use for taking down enemies. It works really well on enemies earlier in the game, but more advanced enemies will sometimes stop you from doing it. When you have your sword out press the A button to vault over the enemy. Then start mashing the X button. He should slash two times, once to damage and second to knock it to the ground. If it is a sand enemy then you should take out more of them before sticking your dagger into it.
